Adam Michael Cummings

Adam Michael Cummings, 44, of Dora, Alabama, passed away tragically on August 12, 2026. Adam was a beloved son, father, brother, uncle, and friend whose life centered on his family and the time he shared with them. He was a proud and devoted father to Addison, Kenslee, Asher, and Ezra, and he found his greatest joy in being present in their lives—whether coaching his boys in sports or supporting his daughters in cheerleading and pageants. Adam had an extraordinary heart for children, and one of the greatest expressions of that love was through coaching. He devoted countless hours to coaching youth baseball, football, and basketball, pouring his time, energy, encouragement, and love into children throughout the community. To the many young athletes who knew him simply as “Coach Adam,” he was far more than a coach. He was someone who believed in them, encouraged them, prayed for them, made them laugh, and made sure every child knew they mattered. Coaching came naturally to Adam because he never lost the youthful spirit that allowed him to connect so easily with children. He could meet them on their level, laugh and play alongside them, and still teach them about teamwork, perseverance, confidence, and being part of something bigger than themselves. He loved the game, but he loved the kids more. His faith was an important part of who he was, and he often carried the children he coached and the families he loved to the Lord in prayer, asking God to guide, protect, and bless their lives. Adam’s faith in God was a steady and guiding force throughout his life. He believed in the power of prayer, the importance of grace, and the promise of eternal life through Jesus Christ. While his absence leaves a deep void for those who loved him, his family finds comfort in knowing that he is now at peace in the presence of his Savior, reunited with loved ones who have gone before him, and resting in the hope and promise of heaven. The impact Adam made from the sidelines, dugouts, fields, and courts reached far beyond wins and losses. Over the years, he became an important part of the lives of countless young people and families in the community. The children he coached will carry pieces of Coach Adam with them long after their playing days are over, and the influence he had on them will remain an enduring part of his legacy. Adam was a valued member of the Cummings family business, Cummings Poultry, where he worked alongside his family. Adam deeply valued his close family ties and the time spent with those he loved. Adam attended Lee University, where he was a member of the Lee Singers. His love of music continued throughout his life, and he especially enjoyed playing the piano, his guitar, and singing. He embraced life’s simple moments and shared them with others, bringing warmth, presence, and joy to those around him. He loved playing golf, watching Alabama football, and, above all, spending time with the people he loved. He will also be remembered for the love he shared with those closest to him, including his fiancée, Hannah Smith Drake, and her daughters, Piper and Zoe, who held a special place in his heart. Adam was preceded in death by his stepfather, Joe Mayeux; his grandparents, Doris Dunnam Burroughs, Archie Burroughs, Doyle Cummings, and Glenda Cummings; and his infant nephew, Thomas Warren Bates. He is survived by his children, Addison, 17; Kenslee, 14; Asher, 9; and Ezra, 8; his father and stepmother, Larry and Gail Cummings; his mother and stepfather, Sharon and Wayne Lombard; his siblings, Amanda (Alan) Bates, Kaitie (Chris) Murray, and Kaleb Cummings; his aunts, Stacy Payne (Tom) and Debra (Wayne) Gilliam; his cousins, Mallory Smith and Bryant Payne; his nieces, Annie Bates and Alice Bates; his grandmother, Marilyn Burroughs; and his extended family and many friends who loved him dearly. He is also survived by his step-siblings, Olivia (Andy) Koch, Aimee (Ryan) Arp, and Marty (Kristi) Mayeux, along with their families. Adam will be remembered most for his enormous heart, his devotion to his children, his genuine care for others, and the youthful joy he carried throughout his life. His life was far too short, but his influence will live on through his children, his family, the young people he coached, and the countless memories shared by those fortunate enough to have known and loved him. He will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever cherished. Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm, Tuesday, August 18 at New Horizon Chapel.
